GODDARD— The Valley Center Hornets won on the road tonight at Goddard 67-36 to get to 7-7 on the season. The Hornets got 7 3-pointers from Jakob Byrne as he was red hot against the Lions zone. After a back and forth 1st quarter the Hornets never trailed as they got highlight dunks from Braydon Gray and assists from Gabe Phillips attracting double teams. The Hornets play at Maize South Tuesday.

The Valley Center JV boys lost to Goddard 63-53. The Hornets couldn’t overcome a slow start after trailing 16-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets made a run late in the 4th quarter to pull within four at 55-51, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Kade Wilson led the scoring with 16, Zack Romig 8, Noah Simmons 7, Hunter Stacy 6, Davin Schmelzle 6, Braden Dalrymple 5, Dale Petrie 3, Sam Bass 2.

The Valley Center freshman boys won Friday night over Goddard 55-36. The freshman came out more focused than I have ever seen them and it showed. We jumped out to a lead in the 1st quarter and never looked back. The boys played well together and shared the ball all night. I was extremely proud of their effort and look forward to the final stretch of the season! The leading scorers for the Hornets were: Jacob Rutschman 12, Eli Lefto 9, Max Preheim 9, Josh Hailey 8, Caleb Saner 8, Mason Ehrstein 3, Tate Tyler 3 and Ashton Molello 1.
