Boys Basketball · Varsity Boys Lose in OT

VALLEY CENTER– The Valley Center Hornets lost in overtime to rival Maize South 68-73 Friday night. The Hornets were led by Gabe Phillips and Jakob Byrne with 17 points each. Eli Isaacs had 11 points and 8 assists. Down by 11 in the 2nd half the Hornets fought back to take a 5 point lead with 2 min to play. Maize South made another run to tie the game with 30 seconds left. The Hornets had a shot to win it in regulation but Isaacs shot missed and the follow by Phillips was just short. The Hornets fall to 3-3 and play at Ark City Tuesday.

The Freshman boy’s basketball team won Friday night vs Maize South 62-53. The boys played a great game throughout and took the lead early and never looked back. I was extremely proud of our guys in how they completed. The Hornets were led in scoring by Jacob Rutshman with 20, Eli Lefto 17, Joshua Haily 10, Max Preheim 6, Dawson Petrie 3, Camden Waterson 2, Caleb Saner 2, and Ashton Molello 2.

The JV basketball team won 59-43 Friday night against Maize South. The Hornets jumped ahead on Maize South quickly and ended the first quarter ahead 17-10. The Hornets kept fighting off runs by Maize South and eventually hit a few key 3 pointers to pull ahead late. The Hornets were led in scoring by: Kade Wilson 16, Hunter Stacy 11, Dale Petrie 8, Gabe Phillips 6, Marion Ponds 4, Davin Schmelzle 3, Zack Romig 3, Braden Dalrymple 3, Sam Bass 3, Winston Edwards 2.
