Girls Varsity Softball · Softball vs. Garden City: Hornets Fall Despite Rowley’s Perfect Night

Game 1 –

Taylor Rowley drove in four runs, but it wasn’t enough as the VCHS softball team fell to Garden City 12-6 in the first game on Friday. Rowley drove in runs on a home run in the third and a home run in the seventh.

In all, the Hornets collected 12 hits and Garden City had 18 in the high-scoring affair.

Emma Anderson took the loss for Valley Center Hornets Varsity. She surrendered 12 runs on 18 hits over seven innings.

The Hornets tallied 12 hits in the game. Ashley Thorne, Rowley, Mallory Feather, and Emma Meyer each managed multiple hits. Haley Rutschman had a homer. Rowley and Thorne each managed three hits to lead the team.


Game 2 –

The Hornets couldn’t keep up with Garden City and fell 15-3 in the second game.

In the bottom of the first inning, VCHS tied things up at one when Mallory Feather singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Garden City pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning.

Caitlin Edwards was on the mound for VCHS. She allowed 11 hits and 13 runs over five innings, striking out four. Emma Anderson threw one inning out of the bullpen.

Emma Meyer, Taylor Rowley, Ashley Thorne, Feather, Lia Groves, and Edwards each collected one hit to lead the team.

Rowley batted 1.000 on the night in her 7 plate appearances. She had 4 hits, 2 walks, and one hit-by-pitch.
